Subtle 03:28 video
It takes away All of me Can't lie There's nowhere to be veiling Can't hide So little left to hold of me The shadows survive This could be the end of it I can't fight In the shadows Of its might It seeps through me I give in one more time I feel lost In all of its divine I surrender to it One more time I surrender to it One last time It takes away all of me Can't hide what I was doing There's nowhere left to be veiling Can't hide what I was doing So little left to hold of me I can't fight I won't fight

She flutters in The wind In a simple movement Her body is Flowing Like a river She’s the shape of water And though it aches With each step She feeds on this torture To feel awake In a sleeping world And when it stops She wants it to start again No point in reveling In the follies of men She is used to their banter She gives it little care As she’s the only one awake In a sleeping world Fluttering Forever flowing away Flowing The ache is hers alone Aching To feel awake Awake In a sleeping world

The night is growing so thick I can barely see What’s ahead of me I want to turn back around but the voice keeps calling Calling my name Something is making me move I can’t stop I can’t look back It has won Tragic yet so right that all will come to a stop Mesmerized Can you hear it calling It has chosen what you will become Can you feel it control you Its voice moves you so strong Let it consume you In the end you’re not the only one It must have come from the stars it’s beautiful A gift It must have been from afar it has open itself to us So ravenous I don’t remember my name all I know is the truth That I’ve created It starts and ends with the night that has spoken my name I no longer remember The night calls my name It knows we’re the same The night calls my name It knows we’re the same Can you hear it calling It has chosen what you will become Can you feel it control you Its voice moves you so strong Let it consume you In the end you’re not the only one Let it become you In the end you are the only one

We're here for your demise We're here for your demise We're here for your demise We're here for your demise We're here for your demise We're here for your demise You bend my will Bruised to the bones Decay all the way Here No light at all There's no escape You have fallen and I'm far too gone Floating to nowhere There's no light no space it's calm And I'm just here I have fallen and you're far too gone You're not here There's no light no space it's calm You bend my will Bruised to the bones Decay all the way Here No light at all There's no escape You have fallen and I'm far too gone Floating to nowhere There's no light no space it's calm And I'm just here I have fallen and you're far too gone You're not here There's no light no space it's calm We're here for your demise We're here for your demise We're here for your demise We're here for your demise We're here for your demise We're here for your demise We're here for your demise

about

"A haze of ephemeral synth beauty with anthemic beats and pulses, that swirl like warm air in the coldest night" - Post-Punk

"While employing a fair degree of convention, but taking it in all the right creative directions, this is a promising debut and we look forward to hearing more from them." - CVLT Nation

"One of many bands currently transforming the city’s [Seattle] sonic-aesthetic association from one that is grunge-based to one that is sleek, synth-laced, black-clad, and forward-thinking" - Big Takeover Magazine

"Terrific debut! ‘Subtle‘ is an awesome, pounding darkwave killer." – Turn Up The Volume

"The best kind of claustrophobic darkness" - Whisperin' and Hollerin'

////

Subtle is Hallows' first recorded output. The record blends melodic guitar riffs, commanding bass lines, a combination of melancholic and gritty synths, lyrical beats, and moody vocals. The tracks tell stories of unease: straining loneliness and isolation, anxiety and fears, the nightmares of encroaching love, dejected vulnerability, a life extinct of realization.

Entirely composed in V and D's living room when they lived in St Paul, Minnesota, Subtle is a very intimate record. Using a mix of analog mojo and the coldness of digital synths, the sound attempts to reconcile opposite worlds and produce something meaningful out of the chaos of the modern era.

Tapes available through Phage Tapes and include a digital download code.
